Daycare

This past week has been such a whirlwind I barely know where to start. When I finally had some free time last night, and between massive amounts of laundy, I was planning on writing some big entry about everything, but instead, I decided to watch about 5 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy with my drunk, still-reeling-from-the-Chiefs playoff loss husband. As a result, no entry.

Thursday was Lucy’s first day at daycare. We are trying to get her used to being in the care of others, as I’m planning on going back to work in a few short months. She, of course, did fine. I, on the other hand, was a total mess. I had a very full day doing freelance work and attending meetings, but I just ached for my baby. I’ve left her before, but this was the first time I left her with someone who wasn’t Trent or a family member for such a long period of time. It just feels like she’s growing up so fast.

Today I took her for the first time to the nursery at church so I could actually listen to the pastor, instead of spending the entire service shifting toys around and glancing apologetically to those sitting around me. When I went to go get her afterwards, the teenage girl who was checking babies out of the nursery was holding my little baby girl. She was slumped over her arm, fast asleep. When I took her, she nestled right on my shoulder and didn’t even blink. She stayed asleep the entire time I was saying goodbye to friends and family and didn’t wake until I finished feeding her. When she woke up, she looked at me like, wait, when did you show up! Then she smiled so big. I hope she always does that when I get her from daycare.
