Kirtsy: Fall Weddings

Today I’m a featured curator over at Kirtsy! I know, right? What are they thinking? The topic is fall weddings, which I am totally qualified to discuss since I was married in the fall of 2005. Remember?

The Roof

Awwwww…

Wait, where are my shoes?

No matter. Come visit me over at Kirtsy to see some gorgeous images that celebrate autumn nuptials! And thanks to the Kirtsy Chicks for the opportunity. You all are rockstars!

Digital Sabbatical Recap

Remember when I said goodbye to the Internet for the month of July? Well, if you’re here, you definitely do, because no one else is still reading after that break. So thank you, reader, for sticking with me through the month of radio silence and the ensuing barrage of pictures of my kids/lamenting of their growing up/comparing life with a yoga class (seriously, who the eff am I?!)/et cetera. You rule.

Just like last year, I made some resolutions of things I would do while I refrained from hitting refresh on my browser. And, similar to last year, I even did some of them. (Emphasis on “some.”)

Read three books: Right before the Digital Sabbatical I got myself a Nook Color, as I can’t afford an iPad and I spend many hours a week locked inside a supply closet at work pumping (sorry, that’s life bitches) and I was tired of lugging books back and forth. And yes, I know that a “digital sabbatical” should probably include staying away from electronic reading devices, but my sabbatical, my rules. And holy hell, did I read. Not just three books, not four, not five, but ELEVEN. Yes, eleven. Apparently I spend way too much time on the internet, because eleven is a lot of books. My faves?

Spoiled by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan
A Place of Yes by Bethenny Frankel
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins
Matched by Ally Condie
Wiches of East End by Melissa De La Cruz (recommended by Miss Lane)

Welcome a new baby to my extended (friend) family: Miss Lena Mae Frey-Pettibone was born on July 13 and she is so beautiful I can hardly stand it! I need a trip to NYC so I can snuggle her in person…

Take Lucy and Tate to the fair: Um, 30 days of 100+ degree heat means no fair for us…womp, womp.

Try and get a family photo at said fair (hahahahaha! ha.): No fair meant no fair photos, but we did get some taken at the farm instead! And they are quite lovely, if I do say so myself. Many thanks to sis-in-law-to-be, Erin, for snapping these.

Go blueberry picking: Yeah, we slept in because it was raining on the day we were to do this, so we missed it. But Nicole and her family still went, and it looked to be super fun!

Celebrate a birthday or two: Miss Mara turned 28 and I made her a homemade Penny Can (for context, see here). I am an awesome friend. Also, Mr. Sawyer Nash had an early birthday party in July (because he deserves it, that first year is tough!) and was formally dedicated at church. He is such a cutie. I heart him!

Spend a weekend at the lake: Done!

Go shopping for first day of school supplies (KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!!): Done! Technically this was after the sabbatical though…

Captain my Bowl for Kids Sake team without making a total ass out of myself: Half done…I did captain the team (excuse me, SUPER TEAM as we raised more than double our original goal!!!), but I bowled awful. I was second to last, and the only person who did worse than me had carpal tunnel. True story.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Team!

Learn to make the perfect margarita: You guys…I did it! Well, Melissa from my supper club did it, but then I copied her. It’s one bottle of premade (with alcohol) margarita mix, one part sparking water (flavored if you’d like) and a bunch of fresh limes. Do it. Now. I don’t care if it’s 9 a.m. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere, right?

Smooch on my kids and my husband and my life: Yeah, you know it.

Out of the Office

It’s that time of year again, people. Time for the somewhat annual Digital Sabbatical. Same rules as last year (you can read here), basically I’m going off the Internet cold turkey for a month. I am starting on July 1, which is a few days away, so I may still be Facebooking and / or Twittering for a bit. Also, like last year, I’ll still be posting randomly to Flickr (which I use as an organizational device more than a social networking tool anyway), and if you’re so inclined, you can find me there. If you urgently need me, you can always email at megan [at] crazybananas [dot] com. I’ll be checking email once a day, so if I don’t respond right away, that’s why. And of course, all of you who know me outside of the world wide web can call or text, and I’ll be there.

Cue Michael Jackson.

This year during my digital sabbatical I plan to do the following:

– Read three books
– Welcome a new baby to my extended (friend) family
– Take Lucy and Tate to the fair
– Try and get a family photo at said fair (hahahahaha! ha.)
– Go blueberry picking
– Celebrate a birthday or two
– Spend a weekend at the lake
– Go shopping for first day of school supplies (KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!!)
– Captain my Bowl for Kids Sake team without making a total ass out of myself
– Learn to make the perfect margarita
– Smooch on my kids and my husband and my life…

For more info on Digital Sabbaticals (and how to take one when everything from your life to your work to your fun is online) from the main lady herself, Gwen Bell, click here.

Now, if you’ll excuse me. I’ve got some babes to smooch.

My Friends Are Alright

Back when I started this blog a few years back, Facebook didn’t even exist to my circle of friends. Twitter certainly wasn’t in the picture, and so whenever I said I had a website, people looked at me like I was A.) Crazy B.) Awesome or C.) Lying. Which, let’s face it, is how people still look at me most of the time, so we should probably just move on.

In the last few years, some of my best friends and most lovely commenters on this site, have started blogs of their very own. Somehow in the last redesign of Crazybananas dot com, I deleted my blogroll (yeah for messing with CSS when I have no idea what I’m doing!), so I figured I’d put together a mini-blogroll of some of my favorite friends and their own little pieces of the Internet.

Misc. – A modern girl’s guide to the miscellaneous: This little gem is written by my friend Lane, who has contributed to Crazybananas several times over the years (see here and here). I’m so happy she has finally started her own blog, since she is probably one of the most knowledgeable people I know when it comes to cooking, fashion, design, home, et cetera. Her blog is basically a tour of her favorite things, and trust me, you will be as charmed as I am. Especially when you read her guilty pleasures section…
Favorite posts – Prosciutto, Fig & Brie “Pizzas” and Polished

textStyle(d) and @ the moment: Katie, who was a contributor during the “Preggo Style” series last fall, has started TWO blogs and both are worth checking out. The first is textStyle(d), a fashion blog written from the perspective of a textile design expert. She posts lots of great, eye-catching items, along with tips of how to make certain pieces work together. @ the moment is a more personal blog, which was a spin off from her Twitter feed, where she had regularly been posting pictures of her “View @ the Moment.” The blog consists of these pictures, but also random thoughts and “Listening to @ the Moment” where she posts songs and videos.
Favorite posts – Print ID and V @ the Moment, Rain, Fog, Storm

The Stover Show: My friend Mikayla was (and still is) one of the best commenters on Crazybananas. She is one of those friends that is always supportive of anything I do, even if what I’m doing is totally stupid. She started her blog, The Stover Show, as a way to keep her friends and family updated on her life as she moved to the suburbs, got married and had her first child. Her blog mostly focuses on her family life, with tons of pictures of her adorable son, Sawyer. Recently, Mikayla faced a struggle that I will never be able to comprehend, which she posted about with such class and dignity, it literally brought me to tears. Check it, she’s probably the strongest person ever.
