Happy Second of December!!!

We had so much fun making this holiday video last year, I had to share again! I doubt we will make one this year, due to our star’s dislike of the camera these days, but luckily I feel like last year’s stands the test of time. Happy December 2nd!

Stiller and Meara

I was browsing on Hulu the other day and saw this fantastic web series called Stiller and Meara, which features Ben Stiller’s parents, Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. The two are both comedians who have been married for almost 60 years, and became famous as a comedy duo on the 1960s and 1970s, doing appearances on TV like The Ed Sullivan Show. The new series was taped a few years ago, and the two cover topics from Lindsay Lohan to Unemployment Insurance. I can only hope in 50 or 60 years I’ll still be as funny as these two…well, I’m probably not that funny today, but that’s not the point. Enjoy a little bit of Stiller and Meara!

A Conversation with Tate

It’s official, 22 months is my favorite. And my favorite color is “rocket” too.

On My Mind

IMG_1270

Gosh, I love New York. It’s always on my mind in the fall. It doesn’t help that I now have this movie on both DVD and on my iPad, so I can visit my favorite city whenever I please. The city is it’s own character in the greatest story, and I never tire of it.

Recently I’ve found myself singing the kids to sleep again. I don’t know when it happened or why…just one day I realized I’d sang them to bed for several nights in a row. Trust me, my voice is nothing worth writing home about, but I can carry a tune or two when the mood strikes me, and for whatever reason, our current winner is “Moon River.” Tate calls it the moon rainbow song, and he begs me to sing it over and over, while he holds my face between his hands. Lucy prefers it to be sung while I stroke her back. What is it about “Moon River?” Every time I almost make it through the whole thing, and then the tears start to flow. That happens to everyone, right? By the time I reach, “my huckleberry friend…” I’m doing my best to keep my voice from cracking and hold the whole thing together.

“Moon River” will always and forever remind me of New York, thanks to Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Audrey Hepburn singing it from a fire escape. So today while I think of my friends in that city, I’ll sing this tune as my babes drift off to sleep. And I’ll thank my lucky stars I live in a world where a dream like New York City is real life.

“Two drifters, off to see the world. There’s such a lot of world to see. We’re after the same rainbow’s end, waiting ’round the bend, my huckleberry friend, Moon River and me.”

Back to School Rewind

Is anyone else panicking about school starting in one week?! I sure am. And whenever I feel overwhelmed, I immediately browse the archives of this here blog. I mean, if there’s anything positive about having a blog and being a chronic oversharer, it’s the ability to go back and look at what your life was like a few years ago and think, “Whoa! What the what?”

I went school shopping for Lulu the other day, and of course I found myself watching this video afterward. This silly little video we made with my point and shoot camera when she was a sweet five-year-old who was so, so excited for school to start. For those of you fighting the back to school crowds today, I hope this makes you smile.

Also, five-year-old Lu? You are adorable.
