Caps! Caps for Sale! 50 Cents a Cap!

Tate loves to read. He loves reading books more than eating, which is saying something, since that little guy will put down an entire pizza in one sitting if you let him. I’ve felt a bit guilty about the lack of reading time that Tate gets with me, especially in comparison to how much we read to Lulu when she was younger. But as everything is with two kids, it’s harder to find the time. So I was pleasantly surprised when Tate toddled up to me carrying a pile of books, handed them over and promptly sat down in my lap, ready to get to it.

Tate has a whole stack of books that he loves (top Tater Tot picks are Corduroy, Brown Bear, Brown Bear and Moo, Baa, La La La), but his favorite by far is Caps for Sale. This is endlessly entertaining for me, because it was one of my favorite books as a kid as well, and I fondly remember my parents reading it to me over and over, while I acted out the part of the monkeys who steal the poor peddlers caps. If you’ve never heard of it, the book premise is basically that a peddler who is selling caps falls asleep and wakes to find all of his caps have been stolen by a tree full of monkeys. He then yells at the monkeys and the monkey taunt him back by repeating everything he does.

The other day we realized that like myself and Lulu before him, Tate loved Caps for Sale, and loved acting out the parts where the monkeys make fun of the peddler. So when Trent heard us reading it before bed, he grabbed my iPhone and shot the video below. It makes me very happy.

Turns out, even though we didn’t read to him for 30 minutes each and every night, our little guy loves books just as much as his sister. That’s pretty rad.

And just for fun, here’s an old video of Lucy reading the same book when she was about two years old (the Caps for Sale part is at 2:28). Yeah, I’m crying now. Mah baby!!!

Sick Day

Untitled

I am spending ANOTHER day at home with this little guy, who isn’t feeling very well. On one hand, I’m glad the kid is in daycare developing super-immunity…on the other hand, his poor body is just done. I took him to the doctor today and they were basically like, “Sorry, dude’s crabby.” Thanks for the tip, Doc, here’s $75!

In case you’re wondering (or are living under a rock) I’m still loving Instagram. I think the combo of two of my favorite digital mediums, photography and social media, has me slightly obsessed. It could be worse, I could be obsessed with cats or coupons or little porcelain dolls. So basically, I’m looking at this as a positive development.

Random editors note: I am working on some big changes around here (and around everywhere, actually) so if you notice some wonkiness on the site, please bear with me, as I’m not actually a web or graphic designer and sometimes I accidentally delete important code and freak out and random things disappear, like my sanity. But when it’s done, it will be magical. Hooray!

Baboons and Blanky’s

After Tate’s 15 Month update a few weeks back, a few people sent me messages doubting Mr. Tate could actually believe the word “baboon” meant “book.” Others asked why I didn’t correct him, since this was obviously going to be a limiting factor in his life. So I took this quick video to explain why. After watching I think you’ll understand why I never, ever will correct this baby and if anyone does I will cut them. The cute, it is overwhelming. This video also showcases Tate’s best Linus impression, the thumb in the mouth and the blanky trailing behind. Man, I love this little guy.

(Please excuse the bad video quality. Mr. HD Flip Cam does not do well under low light situations. Also, please excuse the lack of baby pants. We are anti-pants around here.)

Happy Monday!

A Little Show

Oh you guys…this video is a perfect embodiment of what life is like for us right now. I know it’s long, but trust me, I cut out a good 30 minutes to get down to this. Lucy told me she wrote a “show” and that Tate and I were to come watch it. She sings, she dances, she acts! A real triple threat. And not to be left out, Tate proved to be a triple threat as well. He knocks things over, he eats dog food, he gets mad and cries!

If there was an internet time capsule, this is what I’d put in it. Labled “Life, 2012.”

Jayhawk Blast from the Past

Rock Chalk 2008!

This is Lulu and I four years ago, when KU played Memphis for the NCAA National Championship. Four years doesn’t seem like much until you look at photos of your kids. I mean, she wasn’t even two years old yet. She was around Tate’s age…well, a bit older, but still, she was one! Year! Old! Gah!

I will say though…in 2006, I had a baby. In 2008, two years later, KU won a championship. In 2010, I also had a baby. It’s 2012. I think if the universe makes any sense at all, we’re due for another championship.

Rock chalk, Jayhawk!!!
