Wake up.
Here’s to the end of another week. May your weekend be filled with refreshing pools, baking in the sun, Michael Jackson tribute mixes, the smell of SPF 50, fresh fruit and lemonade. Happy summer!

This year, for her birthday, Lulu got a digital camera. I know, she’s spoiled rotten. But my mom and dad wanted to get her something nice and they gave me $100 to do it. And trust me, that kid was not getting a scooter. Unfortunately, Lu’s inherited my balance problems. So instead I got her this Vtech digital camera in PINK! (via a recommendation from Nicole) and she’s been following me around snapping pictures of everything in sight since. Yesterday I cleaned off her memory card and after only five days with the thing, she’d taken over 200 pictures (and one video?). Granted, many of them were of the floor or someone’s shoe, but there were a couple shots in there that weren’t half bad.
Classic “Mama’s Mad” shot. It think I was telling her to put the camera down and go to bed. I look very stern, no?
Lu got a couple of princess crowns for her birthday, and they have been good subjects for her camera. There are also several pictures of me dancing around with the crowns on, but luckily Lu cut my head off in most of them.
This is Lu taking a picture of me taking a picture. Click here to see my final product.
This is what most of her people shots look like. If they’re not headless, they’re definitely eye-less.
Along with the crowns, she also got a pair of fancy dress up shoes. She keeps trying to cram them on my giant feet, and I’ve never felt more like the ugly stepsister. Except when I could hear the shoes breaking underneath me. Then I felt more like Shrek.
You can see an entire set of Lu’s photography (I think I’ll call it, Lutography) here. Beware, most of the people pictured are missing their heads. You’ve been warned.
Two very important things occurred this past weekend. First, my lovely Mara graduated from college. Seriously, isn’t she the prettiest girl ever?!
Mara is one of my best friends in the entire universe, and though she loves to annoy the poo out of me (her nickname for me is Old Balls Black Bear…I have no idea what it means either, but she thinks it’s hilarious), I couldn’t live without her. She already knows how incredibly proud I am of her accomplishments, but I like embarassing her, and nothing makes Mara more unhappy then seeing photos of herself.
This happy event was a long time coming, and was totally worth it. Congrats, The Mara! I’m so happy you have made it this far and have joined me as a fellow Jayhawk alumna. Every time I hear you scream Rock Chalk or curse out UNC, it makes me smile knowing that I get to share my love of KU with you. And it’s also nice to know I’ll never be the most extreme or psychotic fan in the room, as long as you’re there with me. You did good, Mars, really good.
Now go get a job, woman!
The other big event this past weekend was the bachelorette party for Miss Mikayla. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past four years, Mikayla is the fiance of Heath, who is Trent’s business partner. We all used to live a few blocks away from each other in the West Plaza area of Kansas City, and when I was huge and pregnant and generally pissed off, Mikayla would bring me cookies and watch American Idol with me. Though we always claim to be completely different (I think we have about four things in common, total) one thing we share is our extreme dork factors. I went to Space Camp, her favorite movie is Newsies. I read books about vampires, she would like us to act out the Thriller dance, in full zombie garb, for her wedding reception. The list goes on.
But she has become a great friend in the past few years, starting with her willingness to listen to my pregnant grumblings, to becoming my daughter’s godmother, to sharing bitch sessions on whatever new scheme our boys have come up with for their business. She’s good person, a great friend, and is going to be a gorgeous bride.
You can view all of the pictures from this weekend here. If you need me, I’ll be taking a week-long nap to recover from all this excitement.
Last week Lucy took class pictures at her little preschool. I have no idea how those turned out, although I can’t imagine the photographers were very sucessful at getting ten 2-year-olds to stand still and smile in front of a waterfall (yes waterfall…Lucy’s school is weird). I expected them to be awful (a waterfall can only do so much) so that morning before we left the house, I made her pose in her cute little dress so I’d remember the one time when her outfit actually matched. She started to get annoyed with my camera, so I pulled a Tyra and told her to “work it” and “be fierce.”
Which led to the following….I give you, Emotions by Lucy.
Last night, as Trent was working late, I finally took advantage of a free desktop and went through all of my pictures from the last few weeks. Keep in mind, I have somehow strained a tendon in my arm, so I was editing each photo with a wince on my face and wish for a nice shot of bourbon, so we’re lucky I got anything done at all. First up, Lu and I’s trip to Florida to see my mom. And no, there are no pictures of my hideous sunburn, as it was on my back and my mother has a bit of trouble using the giant super-camera (you’ll notice any pictures of me are either self portraits or when we put the camera on a timer and had 20 seconds to run over and pose).
Things to note:
– Sometime in the last three years Lucy became a kid. A real, live kid. It’s totally weird.
– I am nearly reflective when on a white sand beach. It’s like my skin is camoflauge.
– There is nothing cuter than a kid having the time of her life.
– I need braces.
– I’m not sure if I took enough pictures of Lucy…I mean, 50 just won’t do!
With that, enjoy the sun and fun, and someone please pass the aloe.
