Sawyer and Kayla Came to Visit

Last weekend our good buddies Mikayla and little Sawyer made the trek across the state line for a little visit and grill action. Sawyer and Tate are about four months apart and they are finally at an age where they sort of play together. Well, Sawyer tries to play sweetly and Tate throws rocks at his head. Good buds, those two.

Sawyer’s dad is Trent’s business partner, so watching the boys play and hang out is especially hilarious for us, as we can see their fathers’ personalities shining through. We are so lucky to have these guys as our friends/partners in crime. No one understands being an entrepreneur’s wife like Mikayla, and I’m glad to have someone who understands and can commiserate with me when things get a little too stressful.

Plus, the girl makes rad cheese dip. And she always reminds me to take pictures, which I haven’t been so good about lately. I’m so glad we busted out the camera, because these dudes are pretty adorable.

Staycation: Spring Break Edition

This week is spring break in our neck of the woods, and it’s our first real experience with the idea as parents. I mean sure, we both had our fun down in South Padre Island back in the day (ahem…), but since I work full time, both of our kids are daycare kids. And daycare kids don’t really do spring break. This year Lu is in kindergarten, so she is realizing for the first time what “winter break” and “fall break” and “spring break” (yes, they really do have that many breaks) mean. Unfortunately for my delicate flower, we don’t have the vacation time or funds to do a trip this year, so she’s spending spring break at her old daycare center with her little brother. Luckily, Lu is pretty resilient/ridiculously happy about everything, and so far has loved being back at her old stomping grounds. She’s a bit of a celebrity, and I have a feeling she’s loving being the “big kid” for once.

But today I decided since my entire office is gone on spring break trips with their families, we deserved a little fun too! So I surprised Lucy at daycare around noon and we had a mini-spring-break-staycation. We went to the pool (at our gym…indoors, still fun!), got ice cream, saw a movie (in our basement, since Lu hates big theaters), and ended the day with a picnic and playdate at our local park. She was thrilled and totally felt like she had a real spring break. I’m dreading the day when she realizes a vacation actually includes leaving your neighborhood…but until then, we’re enjoying what we have right here.

Carpe diem, you know?

Is anyone else obsessed with Instagram? I love it so much that even though I don’t have an iPhone (sacrilege, really) I have been randomly posting photos via our two iPods. This month I decided to participate in the Instagram Photo a Day Challenge (click here for details) and while it hasn’t always been pretty (the iPod has a MUCH lower resolution camera compared to my buddies with iPhones who I am not jealous of at all waaaaaahhhh!), it has been entertaining. Here are some of my favorites from this month so far!

If you’re on Instagram, you can find me at the handle Crazy_Bananas.

Super Easy Photo Valentines

This year, my fab and lovely friend Nicole made some awesome Valentine’s for her daughter, and offered to help make some for me as well. I lovity love them!

They were super-easy to make. Nicole took the photos at her house, in front of her chalkboard wall. We had Lucy write “Happy Valentine’s Day,” plopped the kids in front, and Nicole snapped the pics. I then printed them out on some heavy cardstock and cut them myself (because I’m a cheap-o). For Lucy’s cards, I punched holes in the front and we stuck lollipops through so it looks like she’s holding them.

Happy Valentine’s weekend, all! Go forth and spread the love!

Catching Up

I’m at home for a few days with Mr. Tate who has come down with a lovely case of what I’m hoping is not pneumonia, and between the hacking and wheezing, I’m attempting to finally catch up on a few photos from the holidays…

…more to come, if I can ever peel this lovely, sick little boy out of my arms and into his bed.
