22 Months

Untitled

Dear Taterbug,

This month you turn 22 months old, which means we’re almost at the end of these letters. When your sister turned two, I decided to stop writing letters so frequently, and instead just write a little note on each birthday, so for tradition’s sake, I’ve decided to do the same with you. It’s all about being fair, Tate. I don’t want either of you in therapy whining that I loved the other one more…and if you do end up there, please make sure to tell them how many times you’ve “accidentally” given me a bloody lip with your flailing head/arms/feet/body, just, you know, so they get the whole picture.

Untitled

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think we may have turned a very important corner, Tate. For the past six months or so you’ve been, let’s say…difficult. Every. Single. Thing. is a HUGE CHORE WORTH SCREAMING AND WHINING AND CRYING AND LAYING ON THE GROUND OH THE HORROR!!!! Dinner time is basically me launching macaroni and cheese at your face while you scream at me that its too hot or too cold or too cheesy or not cheesy enough. Then you throw your food on the ground and yell at the dog for eating it. Poor Molly, she does not get you, Tate. Why throw the food on the ground if you don’t want her to eat it? I hear ya, Molly, I have no idea either.

1. From where I stand...the baby and the dog are having a stare down over a cookie. And yes, I'm wearing my sweet MHS track warm ups. #fmsphotoaday

But in the last two weeks, you seem to have broken out of the crazy train. You are reminding me more and more of the happy little infant you once were. Will you ever be as “laid back” as we assumed you were? No, I don’t think so. But you sure are happy. You love to laugh and will find any excuse to do so. The other day, I had a friend at the house and every time she made eye contact with you, you’d fall over laughing. You had us all in tears Tate, it was hilarious! As are you. And you know it.

These last few months have been really hard on me, Tate, and you can sense when I’m sad or when I need your support. In fact, the laughing fit I mentioned above took place as I was crying over some recent drama I can’t control. You could feel the weight on my shoulders, and you picked it up like it was nothing, flinging it across the room with your antics. You and your sister have never been closer, teaming up to make me feel better when I’m down. Somehow you both manage to crawl on my lap as we lean back and forth in your rocking chair, with your hands resting on each others faces as you sing me lullabies.

Tate begs for me to hold his hand while we're driving. He is such a sweet boy.Gave the baby a chocolate ice cream cone. #onefunthing

You are so smart, Tate, already reciting your ABC’s and counting to five. I can finally understand you now, which I think is a huge part of your recent departure from frustration land. You can tell us what you want. We can have crazy, babbly little conversations. You have dance parties with your sister where you’ve developed some pretty sweet moves. You pretend to be a dinosaur and we chase each other around the house. That’s probably your favorite game, pretending to be something that growls. Dinosaur, bear, lion, whatever, as long as it growls in your face, you love it. You’re going to be so pissed when you find out you’re a mere human.

Tate is afraid of the windshield wipers, so Lu has to hold his hand in the car when it's raining.Untitled

Some of my favorite moments with you happen right before bedtime. You love to go to bed, and the minute you feel tired enough, you run up the stairs and lay down on your bedroom floor, waiting for me to change your diaper and clothes. You then gather up your two favorite blankets and your stuffed dog and we settle in for an evening reading of Corduroy, your favorite book. After we’re done, we turn out the lights, turn on your sound machine and rock together for about five minutes. Sometimes you lay quietly on my chest, relaxing into the swaying motion. Sometimes you spend the entire five minutes pointing out my every body part (EYES! NOSE! EARS! HAIR! MAMAAAA!). Either way, it’s the perfect ending to a day with you.

I love you, Taterbug.

Fall Mini Shoot Time!

If you’re a longtime Crazybananas reader, you might remember a few years back when I did some mini photoshoots, called “Playgroup Paparazzi.” Kids from Lulu’s playgroup (this was back when she was a tiny, little thing) would all show up at a specific park at a specific time, and for a set price, they’d get a mini photoshoot. Well, I decided it’s time to bring back the mini shoot!

Fall-Mini-Shoot

Are you needing some new, updated images for holiday gifts and cards? Well, for a super discounted price (up to $150 off my normal rate), you get a 20 minute session, with at least 15 high resolution images in a viewable gallery. You will also get downloads of each image to use as you please. You just show up, I shoot, you leave happy! Sounds great, right!

For more information you can email me at megan[at]crazybananas[dot]com or you can go ahead and fill out an online form to reserve your spot. Please remember openings are limited, so if you are interested, I would get that form filled out ASAP. You can view the form by clicking here.

Thank you, as always, for your support! Happy early holidays!

UPDATE: The November date is sold out! I can’t even believe it, you people are awesome. Thanks for spreading the word. There are still a few openings in October, so if you’re interested, snag one before they’re gone. THANK YOU!

Vegas Through The Lens of the 60D

Vegas Encore

So, yes, I lugged my fabulous new Canon 60D camera to Las Vegas. Stop rolling your eyes at me! I thought I’d get some fantastic images of Vegas at night…lights sparkling! The Bellagio Fountains! Drunk people acting insane! Hooray!

Yeah, that didn’t happen. I took a total of 10 pictures. Mostly during our walk to the Mirage Hotel to pick up our tickets for the Beatles Cirque Du Soliel show and during our walk to the Encore to rent our cabana. Other than that, my new baby stayed nicely tucked away where she couldn’t be hurt by anyone’s slightly buzzed hands.

Anyway, here are a few of the shots I took in Vegas with the 60D. Oh, who am I kidding, these are all the shots I took with the 60D. Be amazed, people.

I hope you enjoyed this tour, which I call “The Hotel Lobbies of Las Vegas.” It doesn’t get much fancier than that.

Also, here’s the only picture I took with one of the girls in it. When we ate at the fake Trevi Fountain in Caesar’s Palace, Hayley asked me to take a picture of her with this fish. So, in conclusion, here is Hayley with a replica of a fish on the fake Trevi Fountain.

I’m so glad I lugged that camera along…

iPhoneography: It’s About the Apps, Part Two

A few months back I shared some of my favorite apps for making your iPhone pictures look totally incredible (you can read all about it here). Since then, I’ve found even more photo editing apps (I know, I know, I think I have a problem too) that I am loving and using on a daily basis. New apps are coming out every day, so there is always something new to learn. Just call me Professor Megan! Then bake me a pie because everyone knows you should always bring treats on the first day of class, and everyone also knows I’m a big fan of pie.

Untitledvery you

Phoster
This is an app that takes your images and turns them in to awesome, modern posters. One of my favorite things about this app is anyone can use it and it keeps your photo resolution pretty high, so if you wanted to print any of your posters out and use them, you could. I really like using Phoster to make images quickly on my phone, then upload them to the site to use as headers for different blog posts (like the #onefunthing poster above). If you’re looking to get some text on your images, and skip the cheesy fonts, this is a great way to do it. (Costs $1.99)

Tadaa
Tadaa is an app that works a bit like Instagram, using different filters and sharing options. The filters on this app are a bit more intense than Instagram, but that’s why I like it. Sometimes your photos just need a little rainbow, you know? (Costs nothing, it’s free!)

UntitledUntitled

Camera+
This one is an oldie, but a goodie. Camera+ is another app that’s as easy to use as Instagram, but doesn’t have it’s own sharing platform built in like Tadaa. The filters are fun, and are identified by all sorts of analog camera styles (like Diana or Lomographic). You can also crop, clarify, fix flash issues and adjust lighting. (Costs $0.99)

I live in #kansas (in case there was any confusion). #sunflowerElephant rides.

Get in my belly. #onefunthingUntitled

VSCO Cam
This is the camera app I’ve used most in the past two months, by a landslide. I LOVE the VSCO Cam app so much. It’s another easy way to edit your photos, but this one makes everything look like a dreamy wonderland. A huge part of this is the fade option, which gives each photo a milky quality. Many people have asked how I get that haze to my images, and I’m spilling the beans. It’s from the VSCO Cam app. So if you like it, get it. (Costs $0.99)

Happy snapping, everyone! If you have some favorite apps that haven’t been mentioned, be sure to share them in the comments. My photo app addition is always needing more fuel!

The Las Vegas Birthday Extravaganza!

Vegas-Header

I’m back! And I didn’t spend my entire savings! Yay me! Seriously, y’all, if you need an idea for celebrating your 30th birthday, may I suggest finding four of the best, funniest, prettiest, most fabulous people you know and then going to Las Vegas with them? It will be the best time ever!

We all took bazillions of photos (mostly with our phones) and in approximately 90% of them we have flashbulb zombie eyes. But we are really pretty zombies, so it’s all good. Since my brain is still in the pacific time zone and I can barely formulate sentences, I decided the easiest way to tell our story is through a good old iPhone dump. So here, in no particular order, is our trip to Las Vegas.

LV_iphone-dump

Man, oh, man, did we have a good time! Thanks to Abbie for planning the whole thing, and to all the other girls (I’m talking to you, Hayley, Kristi and Theresa) for coming and giving me a birthday I will never forget. Awesome, just awesome.

Some things we did, and would totally recommend:

– Dinner at Lavo at the Venetian Hotel (where we stayed). Get the fried oreos. JUST DO IT!

– Dancing at Tao (also at the Venetian). Since we went to Lavo for dinner (and the Lavo club is closed Thursday nights) we received free entrance and wristbands for free drinks from 10:30 to midnight. We also got a free VIP table for an hour. Be sure to tip your bartenders, even though you’re not paying for drinks. We were the ONLY PEOPLE who tipped our bartender (which is super sad) and she gave us special treatment all night because of it. Tip generously…remember the drinks are free!

– Breakfast at Morel’s Steakhouse

– Shopping at Caesars Palace and the Las Vegas Outlets (the Kate Spade outlet was incredible!)

– Catching a performance of the Cirque du Soliel Beatles Love show. I totally cried, it was beautiful!

– Dinner at Stack in the Mirage Hotel. Order the “hot rocks” appetizer, which is tenderloin that you cook yourself on hot rocks at your table.

– Walking down the strip and drinking rum slushies that you pick up along the way. Bonus for ordering the giant cup and using it to build glorious arm muscles.

– Rent a cabana at the Encore Hotel. This was generously given to us by Miss Abbie’s father-in-law (he’s the lone guy in the photos above), and we had such a blast! We chose to stay on the family side instead of the beach side, to avoid the crowds of yucky drunk dudes. Napping in the cabana is recommended.

– Watching football at Lagasse’s Stadium, where you can bet on games and watch in total luxury. Most of the girls are K-Staters and Abbie’s father-in-law went to Oklahoma University, so we went to watch the KSU/OU football game on Saturday night. It was super fun (and it helped that K-State won!).

– We ended up swinging by the club Hyde at the Bellagio Hotel and it was a trip highlight. We were lucky enough to have a buddy from high school working there and she hooked us up (Thanks, Kelly! You rule!). We sat overlooking the Bellagio fountains and enjoyed a few drinks while catching up. Good stuff.

– Our last stop of the Las Vegas Extravaganza was the club Bank at the Bellagio. Abbie’s awesome father-in-law treated us to a night we won’t soon forget, with a private table, drink service and lots of room to boogie down. We just kept looking at each other and saying “Is this real life?” It was totally amazing.
