Happy Weekend!

happy weekend

Well, hi there, Friday! I’m so excited to see you. We are still in our hometown for the holiday weekend, soaking up some fun family time. The upcoming month holds big changes for our family, so I’m enjoying these last quiet days before the world goes nuts (explanation coming in a future blog post, I promise!). I hope you are relaxing, sleeping off your food coma from yesterday and finding lots of time to be lazy!

Here are some fun links from around the web, just in case you need a break from all of the family time:

These super creative Facebook timelines have me wanting to redesign my own!

Vintage photos of the girl who inspired Alice in Wonderland.

This is the first year I’ve participating in Fantasy Football, so I’ve been paying more attention to the NFL than I normally do (normally I devote negative 20% of my time to NFL football). This clip of the hosts of NFL Tonight trying to work in lines from The Princess Bride into their broadcast was the best! Maybe I’ll pay more attention now! (Probably not.)

I’m definitely making these spray-paint chalk stencils! What a cool project. It’s like graffiti for rule followers!

An open letter to President Obama on the state of science education. So good.

Ten people singing Taylor Swift songs better than Taylor Swift. Also, these girls are my favorite singers on the web this week. Just adorable and so talented! And now I might have to watch that damn Nashville show. Darnit, you talented kids, making me watch more television!

A new Hairdresser on Fire tutorial is up and it’s my favorite one so far (I say that every time, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true!). How to do a zipper braid/bun in less than two minutes. On a subway escalator. You know, in case you need to do that someday.

I love the Humans of New York blog, so this video was perfection to me!

Hooray! The “What We Wore” series on Bleubird Vintage is back! They’ve been on hiatus for a while, so I was so pleased to see this earlier this week. Love this family and their impeccable style.

Here are a few Instagram images from the past couple of weeks. I know some of these include Miss Molly, but I’d feel strange omitting them. She was a part of our family, and just because she’s gone, doesn’t mean she’s left our thoughts. You can follow our adventures on Instagram at @Crazy_Bananas.

Oh, you know, just taking super creepy eyeball pics with my new iPhone macro lens. Regular Monday night!Spying on Tate and Papa. Their relationship is pretty awesome too :) #thankful

Mini Shoot No. 3 Sneak Peek!

Mini Shoot Header 2

I held the last of my Mini Shoots this past weekend, with two lovely little families who were awesome subjects. Although I’m sad to be at the end of Mini Shoot season, I’m feeling pretty lucky to have worked with so many rad people and families. You all rock!

Thank you again to everyone who participated in the Mini Shoots! They went so well, I hope to do them every holiday season from here on out. Keep reading so you don’t miss the next one!

Growing Up

Noah-3-Years

One of my favorite things about photography is the ability to capture a moment in time. When I first started snapping pics as a little side business, I invited a few moms from Lulu’s playgroup to bring their kids to the park and I’d shoot some photos for them. I got invaluable practice, they got some cute pics of their little ones…it was a win/win!

Stovers-2-Years

In years past, I have played down my photography skills for mostly dumb reasons. I wasn’t a professional or I wasn’t very good or I was a fake. A lot of self-sabotaging crap, if you know what I’m saying. I figured as long as I kept saying I sucked, people wouldn’t criticize my work. Guess what, that’s not true. People are going to like or not like what I’m doing, regardless. And that’s not my problem. My job is to do the best work I can, and try to keep my clients as happy as possible.

Streeter-2-years

Turns out, the minute I threw that bad attitude out the window and just went for it, the whole endeavor became so much more fun! And I was pleasantly surprised how many repeat customers have come ringing. Turns out, I was doing pretty good work the whole time, I was just too busy playing myself down to notice. And now I have some fun time capsules of both some beautiful clients, but my own growth as a photographer. Another win/win!

(Special thanks to the Thomas Family, the Stover Family and the Streeter Family for trusting me to capture their memories. You guys rock!)

Mini Shoot No. 2 Sneak Peek!

Mini Shoot Header

I’m almost done with round two of the Mini Shoot photos and wanted to share a few of them here on this fine Monday morning! I have one more day of shoots this weekend and then that’s it for Mini Shoots in 2012. My families for day two were not only gorgeous, but so accommodating. These particular shoots were on a day when I felt like death and spent most of the day in bed with no voice and a giant pot of tea. I crawled out to do these sessions, then promptly returned to my bed when I got home, so I was definitely worried about how they turned out (Note to Self: Avoid shooting photos while battling extreme brain fog…). Luckily, my pretty subjects made up for my issues, and we ended up with some great shots. Thank you to everyone who came out!

Happy Weekend!

27. Morning... #fmsphotoaday

Hello Friday! Thank goodness you are here, because I’m in MAJOR need of some downtime. With everything that’s been going on in our house the past few weeks, we haven’t had a low key weekend in quite a while. I’m really looking forward to getting started on some projects that have been sitting on my desk and spending some quality time with my crazy little family. They are nerds, but loveable nerds.

Here are some links to get you through your weekend:

The Crazybananas house is sending lots of love and peace to the people on the east coast who are now dealing with a winter storm on top of the Hurricane Sandy damage. This post by Brooklyn resident Mara Kofed of A Blog About Love is so beautiful. I love how New Yorkers come together in times of crisis.

One of my favorite Hurricane Sandy online fundraisers is being held by 20×200, who is selling this NASA print of how Sandy looked from space. Just incredible.

The Park Slope Parents group in Brooklyn is organizing an awesome project to help elderly victims of Hurricane Sandy! Kids can create cards and pictures, mail them to the group, and they will be passed out to the elderly living in shelters with their meals. How cool is that?! More info here.

I dare anyone to watch this video and not cry. I was so excited to hear about all the marriage equality bills that were passed this election cycle. Our world is becoming a better place every day.

I love Michelle’s post about people in real life reading her blog. Being a blogger is such a totally strange and wonderful experience. People think they know you, but who you are on the blog is just a small fraction of what you’re really all about, so it’s definitely jarring when your worlds collide.

The newest Les Miserables trailer is out and Vulture is evaluating every single second of it.

This song just…holy wow. And I never thought I’d say that about anything featuring Drake.

23 women’s magazines, then and now.

Below are some Instagrams from the past few weeks. Have you seen the new web version of Instagram? I’m not sure how much I’ll use it, but it is nice to have somewhere to point people who want to view my photos, but don’t use Instagram themselves. You can see my online Instagram profile right here. I’m @crazy_bananas if you want to follow our fun!

Thanks for the treats, @altsummit! I can't wait for January!Tailgate crew! Go Chiefs!!!!

Getting spooky at the Peters house / Tate, Lucy and I are going to scare Trent.Um, if anyone needs Girl Scout cookies, we have a few to sell. #crap #162boxes

Cuddling by the fire with Grammy. Tate is a lucky little dude.Cousins hiding, throwing stuff at the grown ups feet.

Mini shoot number 2...done!Lucy is having a mock election at school tomorrow...how awesome would politics be if we all got campaign flyers like this? #obama #romney
