Babysitting

Today was the first day of babysitting for my sister’s six-year-old triplets while also taking care of my seven-month old baby girl. So far, no fatalities or loss of blood, but I’m anxiously waiting for the first major boo boo. Luckily, these kids are pretty self-sufficient and would rather watch videos and play video games than do anything else.

Since Lucy’s napping and the kids are all making farting noises on each other (they don’t really need me for that game) I decided to go on my sister’s computer and upload all of the pictures she took over Christmas. You see, my sister, that woman is the best picture taker on the planet. Not necessarily because of her skill with a camera, but the fact that she ALWAYS has one. And she always has the balls to ask people to take a picture for her, even if said person has already taken the same picture with 12 other cameras. While I would just hope someone would email me their pics, she’s right up there going, “Wait, take one with mine, too!” Annoying, but she always ends up with pictures when I got nada!

Unfortunately, my sister’s computer expertise involves uploading the pictures to her HP program and printing them off. I still hadn’t seen most of them because she claims to not know how to email attachments. I assumed she had never even heard of blogging, so imagine my surprise when I started to type this URL and she had it cached in her browser. With new entries! And, she clicked through several pictures and links.

So I guess I have to say only nice things about my family now. They’re on the web. Taking over. Very. Frightening.

(Beth, I’m obviously kidding and very flattered you read this site every once and a while. Please don’t tell Mom. And I’m posting a serene picture of your kids, which I’ll stare at if I start to get stressed by being the caregiver to four children.)

Peters Family Cabin Fever, Part GETMEOUTTAHEEEERE

We’ve now officially been stuck in the house for 3 days. While most people probably could’ve ventured out by now, my car is really bad in ice and I really don’t have any reason to take the baby out in the dangerous weather. So here I am, the beginning of the fourth day in the house. I’m starting to smell like an old woman.

Luckily my good buddy Mikayla saved me yesterday by trucking out in her big SUV and taking us to get pedicures. That, my friends, was an hour of absolute fabulousness. Not to mention snacking in a ‘tavern’ with a very tatooed waitress…but we’ll talk about that another time. Before I was saved yesterday, I began this list of our snow day activities.

1. Get up, blow nose, suction snot out of baby’s nose, quell screaming about the suctioning, attempt breakfast, clean oatmeal and bananas off my face and the baby’s face.

2. Play with every single toy the baby owns. Finally bring out metal bowls and giant spoon for banging on aforementioned bowls. Baby happy for 15 minutes.

3. Try to think of name for the baby’s bored noise. Sounds like a dying animal. Finally settle on Dying Duck.

4. Attempt to finish web project for freelance with dying duck on my lap. Unsuccessful.

5. Dog runs from front to back door, extremely anxious about sound of ice falling on our house. I let her out and she cries until I let her back in. Sounds like a dying wolf. Dying wolf and dying duck.

6. Baby finally asleep. Attempt to relax by watching TV.

7. Nothing on TV except less than mediocre movie with Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet. Try to take nap.

8. 10 minutes into nap baby wakes up because she can’t breathe with snot in her nose and thumb in her mouth. I suction nose. Screaming ensues.

9. I write list of my misery. Realize I am boring.

Snow Day

Today we got stuck in the house for another episode of Peters Family Cabin Fever. The big ice storm hit KC, and I have a strange feeling we may be stuck for a day or two. So I’ve finally finished compiling another video of our dear Lucylu. The following vid shows us during a run of the mill day, watching Grey’s Anatomy, playing with stuffed monkeys, spitting out our food and attempting to crawl.

Enjoy!

Daycare

This past week has been such a whirlwind I barely know where to start. When I finally had some free time last night, and between massive amounts of laundy, I was planning on writing some big entry about everything, but instead, I decided to watch about 5 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy with my drunk, still-reeling-from-the-Chiefs playoff loss husband. As a result, no entry.

Thursday was Lucy’s first day at daycare. We are trying to get her used to being in the care of others, as I’m planning on going back to work in a few short months. She, of course, did fine. I, on the other hand, was a total mess. I had a very full day doing freelance work and attending meetings, but I just ached for my baby. I’ve left her before, but this was the first time I left her with someone who wasn’t Trent or a family member for such a long period of time. It just feels like she’s growing up so fast.

Today I took her for the first time to the nursery at church so I could actually listen to the pastor, instead of spending the entire service shifting toys around and glancing apologetically to those sitting around me. When I went to go get her afterwards, the teenage girl who was checking babies out of the nursery was holding my little baby girl. She was slumped over her arm, fast asleep. When I took her, she nestled right on my shoulder and didn’t even blink. She stayed asleep the entire time I was saying goodbye to friends and family and didn’t wake until I finished feeding her. When she woke up, she looked at me like, wait, when did you show up! Then she smiled so big. I hope she always does that when I get her from daycare.
