UPDATE: Wanna see some much better pictures?! Allison and Steve’s wonderful, talented photographer, Nicole Coleman, has posted some of her pictures on her photography blog or you can view a tearjerking slideshow here. Nicole is a former high school buddy who has been a photographer since she exited the womb. Her father even took my senior class photos (which I will post someday to show why I will never again cut my hair short, I shudder just thinking about it). Her photos literally turn me green with envy. And she also craved KFC mashed potatoes while pregnant, so she’s officially the coolest.

Live Party Blogging Part 1

I’m not stressed out. I’m not stressed out. I’m not stressed out.

It’s my new mantra.

And I think it’s working!* I do! Really! I swear!

*Or it may be the fact that I’m already drinking.

She doesn’t look a day over 25

My good buddy Mikayla turned one year older yesterday. And what, do you ask, did she spend her birthday doing? Why, moving furniture and performing manual labor, of course! She’s in the midst of a traumatic move from the house she’s currently living in with grumpy Heath (yes, that grumpy Heath) to a house across the street, while the people in the house across the street are moving into the house next door to the house that Mikayla and Heath live in now…whew! Sort of a confusing musical chairs, but with houses. So, musical houses, I guess. I have heard the reason for the move (something about a bigger kitchen and backyard and blah blah blah), but I think it’s just because Mikayla likes to see grumpy Heath get all sweaty. No, I am not suggesting anything. I’m not!

Anyway, a very happy birthday to Mikayla. She’s so sweet and wonderful and nice and helpful and is the best neighbor you could ask for. She’s been such a godsend with Lucylu and is more than willing to listen to me complain about my resident web-dork for hours. She’s also got really pretty hair. And very stylish glasses. And a pool pass. We love her.

Happy birthday, Mikayla! Thanks for all of the boxed wine and cable TV. Thanks for introducing me to American Idol. And thanks for being such a wonderful godmother to Lucy.

The Great American BBQ

Where can you find BBQ, cake (if you hurry and beat the rush), trash cans dressed up to look like clowns (extremely frightening), lots of canned Budweiser, a mullet or three, husbands beating their wives with blow-up baseball bats, one drunk Mikayla and a blond woman who is a very impressive skiball player.

For example…

Sugar, tapioca, and tequila…

Last night’s festivities included another gathering of the infamous supper club. We decided instead of eating at someone’s house, we were going to attempt to be social out at a restaurant…one that hadn’t been pretested by any of us. We decided to go to Blue Koi, a noodle house in midtown full of hippies and their children. The amount of children was surprising. I just couldn’t imagine sitting Lucy down in a hip restaurant and then attempting to keep her quiet so the artists and doctors and bongo-playing musicians at the next table wouldn’t be disturbed. And I couldn’t imagine offering her this:

Bubble Tea

It’s called bubble tea, a beverage from Taiwan that mixes fruity flavors with SUGAR SOAKED BALLS OF TAPIOCA! Squishy, black, tapioca balls in my drink. And Mikayla’s drink. So we added tequila. Then we added a bit more tequila. And now, everyone in our supper club probably thinks we have major issues. Which we do. But mostly these issues are magnified by accidentally sucking a squishy, black tapioca ball up our huge staws.

Which I just realized sounds a bit dirty.
