The Lizzie Bennet Diaries

Sometimes the Internet just makes me so stinkin’ happy. Case in point, “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries.”

As you can see from the video above, “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” is a web series based on the classic novel Pride & Prejudice. The series is set in modern time, and Lizzie (Elizabeth Bennet) and her friend Charlotte Lu (Charlotte Lucas) create a video blog for a class project. The series basically follows the exact plot of the book (with some modern additions of course) as told by Lizzie through her blog. Most of the time in front of the camera is focused on Lizzie, but as the series has gone on, we’ve finally gotten to meet some of the other characters, like her sisters, new neighbor Bing Lee (Mr. Bingly) and his evil sister Caroline. Mr. Collins has even made an appearance! Each week I’m getting more and more excited for Mr. Darcy to finally appear on screen as well!

Seriously, this series is so flipping charming. New episodes air every Monday and Thursday, and the creators have even taken things one step further, by cultivating Twitter accounts for the characters, Tumblr’s for Jane and Lydia (I heart Lydia) and a ton of other web promotion.

Go check out “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” and I’ll see you in three hours when you finish all the webisodes. Trust me, you’ll get sucked in just like I did.

Happy Weekend Announcements

It’s FRIIIIIIDAAAAAY! Hooray, you know? This is has been a big, wonderful week here at Crazybananas. One of the largest undertakings was finally (finally) getting the Crazybananas Facebook fan page up and running. What is that? Here are some other fun things I’ve seen on the web this week:

– During my Alt Class this week (have you registered yet?) another attendee saw my name and emailed me to share that her sister-in-law had the same moniker as yours truly. After a few more emails, I realized our kids also shared a name (she has a girl named Tate!). The world is a funny place, I swear. Anyway, she has a wildly popular blog and she was the person that gave me the extra push I needed to get my Facebook page up. You should go visit her blog, it’s awesome!

– Simple Lovely created a Pinterest board devoted to images of moms that just makes my heart go pitter patter. Moms are beautiful creatures. (This one of Michelle Williams is just, ooof.)

– An avocado bourbon shake? Don’t mind if I do!

– Rebecca Woolf of Girl’s Gone Child has a new web video series called Child Style and I love it to pieces! The first five episodes are live and so charming.

– NPR news hosts do a mash up to pop hit “Call Me Maybe” and I die laughing. Also, I could recognize each host by their voice which *may* mean I listen to too much NPR.

Here are some of this week’s Instagrams! Enjoy, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Happy Weekend!

happy_weekend_june3

It is Friday, right? I am so mixed up, since I took off work in the middle of the week to see some good friends that were randomly in our hometown at the same time for the first time in over five years. The photo above is Tate and Lena at breakfast, looking very much like myself and Lena’s mom, who I’ve known for over 20 years (craziness). While it was such fun, especially seeing our kiddos play together and spending some good one-on-one time with Grandpa, my brain is totally scrambled today. Is it Monday? Tomorrow is the weekend? Wha? Huh? Who? Blergh.

Our plans this weekend include playdates with friends, some pool time, grilling out and hopefully getting some bike rides in. Did I tell you all I finally bought a bike? I totally did, and then the temps hit 105 degrees and I stopped even attempting to ride. But this weekend I will push through, if just to prove to Trent that my random purchase was worth it!

Here are some fun links from around the web this week that had me smiling:

I absolute MUST make this giant banana split!

In Kansas City? Need something to do this July? Check out Ink’s listing of the best things to do in July. Then invite me!

I’m obsessed with this Might Closet from AB Chao. I want her to be my BFF 4 Life and let me borrow her clothes. I also want her to take headless photos of me.

Did someone say Instagram? Well, okay then! Here are some shots of our week. If you’re on Instagram, you can find me at @crazy_bananas.

Lazy Mom’s Guide to Being Awesome

Did I mention a few weeks ago that one of my besties, Miss Lane, gave birth to her first baby?! Oh, it is so exciting to know Lane is a mama now, and I can’t wait to trade stories of poop in the bathtub and how to wrestle the remote control away from your toddler while you’re trying to watch an ABC Family marathon (don’t act like you have no clue what I’m talking about…ABC Family is amazing!). But for now, I wanted to bring a nice meal to my dear friends who are surely living the crazed, sleepless life of first time parents. A total bonus? If you bring food, you get to snuggle baby E!

But then the week of the meal drop off came and things exploded around here (as they tend to do pretty much anytime I have anything planned ever). I quickly realized creating some major meal was not going to be in the cards, so instead I went the lazy mom’s way out…

Picnic

This is a great idea for those of us with little time or little talent when it comes to cooking a fab meal (ahem, I am both of those things). I picked up a cute, reusable picnic basket and those great, colorful cartons to hold fresh fruit and summer veggies from Target. I used pre-made pesto from Whole Foods along with fresh mozzarella and tomatoes on baked bread to make caprese sandwiches, which Lu and I then wrapped in craft paper. We decorated the craft paper with colorful Kids Made Modern tape, and then made cute little utensil wraps using yellow paper napkins, plastic forks/spoons, a colorful straw and, of course, a paper umbrella to spice up their drinks. We wrapped this in the tape as well and stored them in a turquoise candle holder I got from the Target clearance rack. We threw in some Izze’s and flowers, and topped it off with fresh macaroons (also decorated in craft tape) from a local bakery. All in all, it took about 20 minutes to put together, not counting shopping. Lazy moms, hurrah!

Meet Rainbow

There were quite a few items on Lucy’s birthday list that we just couldn’t provide for our little 6-year-old queen (note to self: when you take your kid to Disney World for a birthday they will expect NOTHING LESS for the rest of their lives). Even though we weren’t able to get to Florida this year, we did want to do something special for our little girl. And when I say we, I should specify, I mean the husband. The result was the newest member of our family, Rainbow the beta fish.

Rainbow

Rainbow seems to be adjusting well to our crazy home, except for those moments when the lights in his tank seem to be making him lose his little fishy mind. Oh, and I should mention that in our house, you must refer to Rainbow in the feminine. Lucy knows he’s a boy (boy betas are way more common than females as pets), but she just decided he is now a girl. Poor little dude. He just wants to swim in circles and instead he’s become the world’s first drag queen fish.

I figure since I’m doing a family pet update, I should let you all know how the Professor is doing. Molly is getting pretty darn old, and it’s started to show. She can’t hear very well and her eyes are cloudy. Most days she just wants to lay by the steps, getting up a few times to eat or go the bathroom. She still barks like crazy at any type of delivery person and will lose her marbles if she sees you have food, so I think we still have a few good years left. She also tolerates our household terror, and for that, we will always love that puppy.
