As a part of our “at home” Spring Break this year, I thought it might be fun to try and take the kids somewhere overnight here in the city. That way even though we weren’t going somewhere foreign and tropical, they’d still feel like we “got away.” And I wouldn’t have to travel for hours with a crabby two-year-old. Win/win.
Since it had been so snowy and grey for the past few months, we decided to hit up the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Kansas. The Great Wolf Lodge is a hotel that features a massive indoor water park and is about 20 minutes from our house. The minute we walked into the building, the kids started freaking out, and for good reason. This place completely caters to kids. From the hula hooping in the lobby to the bedtime stories told every night by the hotel’s mascots to the huge arcade, it’s a child’s paradise.
We stayed two nights, and while that was PLENTY, I’m sure you could spend a whole week there and not run out of things to do. We spent the days at the waterpark, but Lulu’s other favorite part was the Magiquest, a game set up throughout the hotel where kids used a magic want to open up treasures and secret powers. It’s hard to explain, but you can learn more about it here. It was nice to have something Lu was so excited about that was outside of the pool area, just in case we needed a break or were trying to get back to the room so Tate could nap a bit.
My only gripe with the Great Wolf Lodge would be the actual rooms. The walls were thin, and when you’re in a hotel full of kids, it can get pretty loud, which made it hard for my little guys to get to sleep. Also, we decided on a suite with what we thought was a separate room for the kids, but it was more like a divider with no door or full walls, so getting the kids in bed was a challenge. They loved the bunkbeds though, and thought the whole thing was a great adventure.
If you’re looking for a fun, easy, indoor getaway in Kansas City, the Great Wolf Lodge is an awesome idea! The location is pretty rad too, right in the Legends area, next to a huge outlet mall, the Kansas Speedway, Sporting KC and a ton of other activities.
Most of my photos from the Great Wolf Lodge were taken with my iPhone (hard to juggle a DSLR camera and a toddler in a swimming pool!), but I was able to shoot a bit of video in the waterpark. I hope you enjoy! Special thanks once again to Grammy who came with us on this adventure!

Oh, hey, it’s Friday! I’m so excited for this weekend. After so many grey, dark months, it finally, FINALLY feels like spring outside and we plan to take full advantage. We have Lucy’s first soccer game and I’m sure we’ll be spending lots of hours cleaning up the yard and starting some garden projects. I am stupidly obsessed with the sunshine this year…not sure why it’s so different than years past. Probably because when I was working crazy hours, I never saw much sunshine, regardless of the season! But this year it feels like there are so many possibilities just waiting for us. I really can’t wait.
I was going to share some links with you, but instead, I think you all should turn off your computers, go outside and lay in the grass for a few hours. If you want to participate in something fun, head on over to Nat the Fat Rat and learn more about her rad project with Go Mighty. She is trying to get 500 tweets, Instagram photos or other social media posts that focus on sharing compliments about others. If you want to participate, just tweet or Instagram something awesome about someone you love and appreciate, and tag the post with #mightylove. If there are 500 in one week, Nat will get to donate $500 to a battered women’s shelter in NYC. Here are a few that I’ve posted over on Instagram…

I know I’m a few days late, but I wanted to share a few photos from our family Easter at the farm. We had such an incredible time, mostly due to the fact that it finally felt like SPRING! After all the snow we’ve had the past few months, it was so lovely to be out in the sunshine for two entire days. We worked on Lucy’s tree fort, dug in the mud for worms, ran around in circles until we were dizzy, laid in the grass watching the clouds and stomped around the lake shore in our rainboots. In fact, we spent most of the weekend in our boots, since along with the snow melt, we had a glorious thunderstorm on Friday night. I am in constant awe that my children are growing up with memories of this beautiful place and watching them live out their childhoods at the farm is so magical. I hope you had as much fun during your holiday and ate approximately 300 jellybeans (like I did, whoops!).
