Happy Weekend : Family Movie Night

family-movie-night

We have a standing tradition in our house that weekends are for movie nights! Lulu is a huge fan of this idea, and honestly, would have movie night every night if she could. It has become something that Lu and I can do together, that doesn’t cause too much stress and isn’t hard to pull off. We usually wait until Tate has gone to bed, because two-year-olds are kind of a bummer when it comes to watching a good movie in peace, but I’m sure one day he will become a part of this tradition as well. Until then, it’s girls only movie night at my house!

We have a steady stream of Disney flicks on rotation, but lately I’ve been looking for movies that both Lu and I will enjoy. Here’s a list of our top five mother-daughter movie faves (of the moment, of course, we are very fickle):

1. The Sound of Music – I love this original trailer from 1965!

2. Lemonade Mouth – OK, yes, so technically a Disney movie, but I’m a nerd and I sort of love this one…(plus I have a secret wish that Lu is in a band someday…I might be living my dreams through my kid.)

3. The Wizard of Oz – A classic, and as a kid from Kansas, she’s gonna need to know why everyone keeps asking her about Oz (Flashback: Remember our Wizard of Oz photoshoot with a three year old Lu as Dorothy? Adorable.)

4. We Bought a Zoo – This one is probably the only one that you’d have to worry about language or adult themes, and it’s pretty mild and adds to the story (the older son goes through a phase where he yells curse words at his dad…). Lucy adores this film and both of us bawl our eyes out every time we watch it. So good.

5. Bride & Prejudice – Jane Austen + Bollywood, need I say more! No lie, this is Lucy’s favorite movie right now. And for good reason!

Have a great weekend and hopefully a movie night or two!

P.S. Check out these amazing ideas for a backyard movie night. I think we may have to plan one for this summer….

Photo a Day Challenge : April 2013

It’s been a little over a year since I did a photo challenge on Instagram, so I figured it was time to jump in again! I find these challenges to be so rewarding, especially since I am totally guilty of being an Instagram mom who only posts pictures of her kids. Photo challenges help me break out of my rut a little bit (even if many of the pics still end up being of my kids…I can’t help it they are ADORABLE!) and gets my creative mind back in working order. My favorite photo challenge is the Fat Mum Slim Photo a Day Challenge, which changes monthly. At the beginning of each month, Chantelle posts a list of photo prompts for each day. You download the list (either on your phone or computer) and then take a photo corresponding to the prompt. For example, a new list came out today for the month of May, and today’s prompt is “I bought this.” You simply take a photo of something (anything!) you have purchased, and then upload the image to Instagram, Facebook or Twitter along with the hashtag #fmsphotoaday. By searching for that hashtag, you can find all the other photos from other participants, which is one of my favorite things to do. I love seeing other people get creative, it’s good for the soul.

Here are my photos from the April photo a day challenge! I tend to post these to my Instagram, so come over and follow me at @crazy_bananas. Sometimes I’ll upload them to Facebook too, so if that’s more your speed, check me out over there. Happy snapping!

Decisions Are Hard : The Conclusion (Feat. Rivet & Sway)

A while ago I wrote this post about an amazing company called Rivet & Sway. Go ahead, you can go check it out if you need I refresher. I’ll wait.

………………..

If you just don’t have time to click back, here’s a quick rundown…Rivet & Sway is a rad company out of Seattle that makes gorgeous glasses for women. They cater to us crazy, busy ladies who love our frames to be stylish and on point, but don’t necessarily have bazillions of dollars to spend. Their sales model is awesome, you can browse their online catalog, and even get advice from a personal stylist, then they will send you three frames to try for free! Once you choose a pair, you just send them your prescription and your glasses are mailed right to your doorstep. It’s simple, convenient, and their selection is amazing!

rivet-and-sway

Rivet & Sway was kind enough to send me a few frames to try, which I posted here on the blog and all over my social media pages (Are you following me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook? Well, you should be! I’m fun and only talk about teenage aliens some of the time…) asking for input on which ones I should choose. And you guys certainly had opinions! Here are a few comments I received:

“The blue ones! Go bold or go home!”

“I’m a sucker for Six Shooter since I wear them in copper, but I think the best everyday overall look for you is #2.”

“Get both 1 & 2!!”

“#3 (Hungry Heart) is great if you want a retro look. It’s very cute.”

After much hemming and hawing, I decided on….

rivet&sway final

Bachelorette Number 1!!! Also known as the Six Shooter in St. Tropez (Blue). I went back and forth on these, because I knew they probably weren’t the most versatile of the bunch, but I have so many pairs of glasses that look just like the other two selections, and I really wanted something fun. Sure, I won’t wear these every day, but they are a great accent piece, and I tend to treat them like a fun piece of jewelry. Jewelry that allows me to see! Hooray! (To see these suckers in action, you can go to this post which has a photo of me wearing them at a blogging event. Pretty fun, eh?)

If you’re looking for a great new pair of specs, check out Rivet & Sway, you won’t be disappointed! And can someone please PLEASE get the Punchline frames in Neapolitan? I am obsessed. (These are frame #2 above, just in a different color, and if you don’t buy them I will.)

This product was provided by Rivet and Sway, but all words and opinions are my own.
